| June 18 | Summer Solstice Open House | from 5-9pm. It’s open to the public and the open house is free. There will be a BBQ as well for $5 per person to cover the cost of the food. The Open House is a chance for people to find out more about the Marina Aquatic Center and actually try small boat sailing, kayaking, and windsurfing before signing up for classes. | July 12 | Local Oceanography Lecture | "Mike's Mixed Sail Bag" features Professor Mike Leneman lecturing on a variety of topics of interest to sailors and boaters. The series will take place Tuesday nights at 7:00 pm at West Marine, 4750 Admiralty, Marina del Rey. The series is sponsored by Fairwind Yacht Club. The lectures are open to the public. | July 16 | Safety and Sailing Seminar | The Association of Santa Monica Bay Yacht Clubs is holding this informative seminar at West Marine at 13555 Fiji Way. It will include firsthand reports from Sunset #1, information on Crew Overboard Recovery, Dismasting and Safety equipment. The seminar will include dockside demonstrations and on-the-water instruction. The seminar is supported by the US Sailing Safety at Sea Committee, the National Safe Boating Council, and West Marine. | 7:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of every month | Womens Sailing Association of Santa Monica Bay Meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Santa Monica Windjammers Yacht Club, 13589 Mindanao Way, in Marina del Rey. The meeting, held at 7:30, is preceded by a social hour, and a light dinner is served. Each meeting features a guest speaker discussing their adventures and achievements. The first two meetings may be attended free of charge. WSA, whose members hail from Oxnard to Oceanside, includes men and women, novices and veterans. WSA invites boaters of all skill levels to join. | Single Mariners meeting | For 17 years Single Mariners has provided sailing and social opportunities for outdoors-oriented singles. Social meetings are held at 7:00pm the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month at Pacific Mariners Yacht Club on 13915 Panay Way in Marina del Rey. Meeting donation is $7.00, which includes a light buffet dinner. At these meetings, skippers and crew sign up for day sails. On sailing days the Single Mariners meet at 9:30 am for breakfast at the Marina del Rey Hotel on13534 Bali Way, spend the afternoon sailing and then return to the docks for a wine and cheese social.
